Mike's Weblog.

a bit of an update.

Hello. I've not had an inter-o-net connection at home so I haven't done much writing here. Here is some now, with some news.

Some news:
I've got a new job which I start in a few weeks. I get to make websites. YAY. It is in Northampton, and I will commute in my soon-to-be-owned car. So far, all I know about Northampton is that their bus station smells of wee.

That is all the news for today. You will have to wait until another time to find out about how much I like the film Silent Running, and dislike David Cameron, why I am afraid of aubergines and my belief that Natasha Bedingfield is a robot from the future sent to ruin our carbon off-set plans.

I think I need to update my blog.

...there, that'll do.

Sunsheeeeyine

Looking out of the window, it doesn't look like the Sun dying is likely to be worrying us at all soon, but Danny Boyle's Sunshine is still "scorching hot!!!" (lolz!). It's of the always entertaining people-going mad/dying-in-space genre - but like that genre's daddy Alien it's so well made and observed that you almost forget that it's not doing anything all that new. Alex Garland's script, like his one for 28 Days Later, fuses together loads of bits and ideas from other films so you watch it going "oooh, that's a bit like..." but it never feels particularly lazy. Sadly, though, as with 28 Days Later it does taper off towards the end, but the first two thirds shine, as does the acting of it's stars. (rofl!)

I give it a topical rating of "sunny with cloudy spells towards the end".

Incidentally, I was right about the ending of Life On Mars - he was mad and in a coma and back in time. I think. Probably.

April Skies.

Hey hey hey! I’ve been having a great time in my new house, which I’ve got all to myself! YAY!!

Because I wanted to watch Life on Mars and Doctor Who (they should do a crossover episode) I bought a dirt cheap USB TV adaptor for my laptop. It comes with an aerial which presumably only works if you live in a helicopter adjacent to the transmitter, and the world’s smallest remote control! Fantastic. I can plug it into the house aerial cable, though, so it’s not all bad, and it's still portable if I stay in the living room. Someone needs to invent wireless broadcasting (irony!). The software that comes with it is pretty awful too, but I’m assuming it’s some generic chipset so I can get something better (and hopefully a Linux version too).

Using the time I would normally waste on the internet reading my increasing book stockpile, writing whiny short stories, making cosmetic changes to Mikeynet, and sleeping.

I’m fine, thanks. How are you?

Update.

I am now in my new house.

Well, not now; now I'm at work.

That is all.
